Unfortunately, clothes are not one style that fits all, especially for jeans. Jeans are the one item that if we look good in them, then you’ll instantly gain confidence, that goes for men and women! Believe it or not, it does matter what type of fit that is going to be the most flattering.
For this post, consider it as a guide to help you find that pair of jeans that were made for you! Below you'll not only find out what style jeans work best for you but also which retailers best cater to your shape.
The Body Shapes
Apple- Apple shape means that the stomach measures larger than the bust and hips measurements. This particular shape will be in need of a mid-rise waist, slightly below your belly button to help minimize the stomach, fitted thigh, and a flared leg to balance the waist.
Pear- Very curvy shape specifically at the bottom half of their body with a smaller waist. This shape will want to purchase jeans from brands that carry curvy collections. The goal is to wear jeans that will present less of a gap in the waist. Boot cut and flare style jeans will get the job done of balancing the hips to create a more balanced silhouette.
Rectangle- This shape is straight up and down, where the bust, waist, and hips are all close in measurements. Normally described as an athletic body type. The goal for this body shape is to create a shape. This person looks great in low rise jeans and skinny jeans.
Hourglass- The hourglass shape has similar measurements in the bust and hip areas, and smaller measurement in the waist. This shape has a few options on what style could work depending on what features the individual is wanting to showcase. Light color denim will enhance the bottom portion by making it look larger, while darker color denim will minimize.
Triangle- The triangle shape has larger bust measurements than their waist and hip measurements. This particular shape will look best in wide leg jeans. The volume at the bottom allows for both parts of the body to balance out.
Some Jean Terminology
"Rise"- You may have heard this term time and time again and wasn't sure what it actually meant. The rise refers to "the distance between the crotch seam and the waistband" and hints to whether a pair of jeans meet below the belly button or above for a more high-rise fit.
When looking at the rise, low-rise is typically 5 to 8 inches long, while mid-rise is 8 or 9 inches and high-rise is 9 or 10 inches ( or sometimes even higher).
"Leg Lengths"- Regular, tall, and short leg lengths are also a bonus when considering places to buy jeans, as this means you can get a pair that best suits your height.
Suggested Retailers
Old Navy is the originator of carrying more sizes for curvy and plus size individuals. They are also where you can get some good quality jeans without breaking the bank.
Good American- I've seen so many ads and hype behind this brand, but I'm wondering is it because Khloe Kardashian is the co-owner and face of it, or they if the marketing is just that good! While reviews are saying they run on the larger side, they are also committing that they are worth every penny with the quality, fit, and comfort.
Abercrombie- Abercrombie has reclaimed their spot on being denim royalty. Their selections of styles, washes, inseam lengths, and inclusive section Curve Love has allowed them to broaden their customer base when they rebranded in 2019.
Levi's- Every time I see Levi’s I think about purchasing my first pair of skinny jeans from JCPenny! This was back in 2007! LOL What I love about Levi’s is that many of their styles provide a good amount of stretch that I need for these curves.
Fashion Nova- I love their jeans BUT I can’t count on them to last for years at a time. I’m a part of that club where I walk and my thighs rub together. With that being said you get what you pay for! Don’t get me wrong, they are very flattering to my curves but I do know not to get too attached because I won’t be able to keep them long!
