In the african american culture, when you’re going into labor, it’s important for us to have a protective hairstyle.
One, who wants to do their hair towards the end of pregnancy, two, who is going to have time to do their hair while getting settled in with a newborn?! Not me! So I was excited to try out some distressed boho faux locs for the start of my motherhood journey.
Why did I choose faux locs instead of braids? I wanted a Lisa Bonet, bohemian vibe. Oh, and of course they had to be long!
The install was only 6 1/2 hours, which in fact went by pretty fast. I know that they look heavy but they are surprisingly lightweight. I love how they are not tight on my edges and that I was able to put them in a bun the same day.
I’ve enjoyed pairing it with hair accessories like the metallic strings, and head wraps. Below check out some of the styles I’ve accomplished so far…
Special thank you to Amber of @manetamedbyamber_ on Instagram. She did an AMAZING job and I can't wait to try these faux locs again but with some color!
